We at The Mustard Seed and Shalom Counselling Centre are very excited to be working together having teamed up to host a major fundraising event in Red Deer on Sunday, March 17, 2019. The Boston Bruins Alumni Team will be coming to Red Deer to face off against the Red Deer HOPE Stars to help us bring hope to the most vulnerable citizens of Central Alberta.
The Mustard Seed is a charitable, Christian organization that builds community, grows hope and supports change for people experiencing poverty and homelessness since 1984.
We care for those in need by walking alongside them on their journey towards a life of wellness, dignity and independence. We strive to create a meaningful difference within the community and in the lives of those facing poverty.
For more than two years, The Mustard Seed Red Deer has become a haven for those in need. Through various relationships with the community, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers, The Mustard Seed has changed the lives of Red Deer’s most vulnerable citizens by providing:
54,000+ lunches delivered across 32 schools
18,000+ warm meals in 2017
Counselling is offered on a sliding fee scale, based on household income and the client’s ability to pay. Financial support from the community enables us to offer affordable services. In addition to counselling, Shalom also offers wellness education to the community in areas of emotional and relational wellness. Topics include healthy relationships for teens, responding to bullying, stress management, conflict management, downsizing, and parenting. In 2017 Shalom served 946 individuals through counselling and another 302 attended wellness education activities.
Proceeds raised from this event will be split equally between The Mustard Seed and Shalom Counselling Centre. Proceeds that Shalom Counselling Centre receives will be used to continue offering peace and hope to those seeking emotional and relational wellness, at a cost that is affordable. Shalom will be able to continue supporting those who are hurting with our counselling and wellness education services.
The Mustard Seed and Shalom Counselling Centre serve many of Central Alberta’s most vulnerable citizens. Together, we will be able to offer hope to those facing numerous challenges including housing, health and wellness, basic services, and emotional or relational support.
